COMPLETED 2021

Situated on a 4,300 square foot plot along Namely View, this detached house initially planned for simple renovations to keep its original Balinese design underwent a dramatic transformation following discussions with the clients, a couple and their two adult daughters. This led to a complete reconstruction aimed at achieving a modern resort aesthetic. It was important to be able to cater to the needs of the family as a whole and deliver what each member wanted.

The ground floor was reimagined to create a unified, expansive space by leveling different heights, resulting in a seamless, single-level footprint. Towering glass sliding doors now encircle the living and dining areas, flooding the interior with natural light. The kitchen was integrated into this open plan, providing a fluid transition into the dining area, accentuated by a serene neutral color palette adding to its brightness.

The original granny room, deemed unnecessary for the active occupants, was repurposed into a lounge area adjacent to the dining space. Anticipating future needs, a lift was installed for accessibility to all floors, proving particularly convenient for transporting heavy luggage, given the family's frequent travels.

On the second floor, the daughters' rooms reflect their distinct personalities: one adorned in a contemporary, dark color scheme, while the other exudes a European flair with light hues. This floor also hosts a captivating display of the client's extensive whisky collection, showcased like museum pieces. Concealed behind a sophisticated illuminated panel, a swivel door leads to the entertainment room, fully equipped for movies, karaoke, and complete with a wet bar—a hidden gem within the home.

Up in the attic the entire floor is used as an extended master bedroom. The level starts from a large bathroom featuring a freestanding bathtub on one end and runs right through to the study area on the other. The wall facing the bed is topped off with glass panels instead of continuing to the ceiling to give natural illumination to the room from the skylight above. The master bedroom is also bookended by terraces, one of which overlooks the pool as well as the unblocked views of greenery and landed homes beyond. The pool made of intricately placed pixelated marble tiles creates an imagery of waves in different hues of blue that is best captured from the view of the terrace.

Overall, what was once a traditional Balinese house has been meticulously reimagined into a modern sanctuary that seamlessly blends luxury with functionality. The collaborative journey with the clients resulted in a home that not only fulfills their current desires but anticipates their future needs as well. From the expansive, light-filled ground floor to the personalized spaces on the upper levels, each detail accommodates the 3 generations residing together.
